A photographic journey during March 2008 through the Republic of Yemen, a country located on the Arabian Peninsula. Presented here are a small selection of photographs from a larger collection that were displayed in a special exhibition in London attended by the Ambassador of Yemen.
Some of the shots show the old walled city of Shibam which has been nicknamed Manhattan of the Desert, because of its vertical buildings. However, unlike the real Manhattan, Shibam is 300 years old and built entirely from mud bricks and is one of the oldest examples of urban planning based on the principle of vertical construction.
